One shove ended a rally on Saturday night when police arrested a 23-year-old man from Givatayim. The incident occurred in Tel Aviv while former prime minister Naftali Bennett addressed a crowd demanding a commission of inquiry into the October 7 massacre.
The man, who sources say was under the influence of alcohol, attempted to breach the security perimeter surrounding Bennett. He shouted the slogan "Only Bibi," a statement of support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while trying to push past the guards. The security detail tried to keep him at a distance, but he ignored their instructions.
A physical struggle began when one guard pushed the man back. The suspect did not step away; instead, he confronted the guard and shoved him in return. The guards quickly subdued the man and held him at the scene until officers arrived. Police took the suspect to a local station for questioning.
Investigators found that the man has no prior criminal record. They are currently examining the specific circumstances of the altercation. The event took place in a park where Bennett had gathered supporters to push for a formal review of the state's failures.
Bennett, who serves as chairman of the B'Yachad party, held the office of prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022. The arrest occurred days before the 2026 Knesset elections. Military personnel cast their ballots at designated polling stations earlier this week.
The confrontation disrupted the gathering but did not stop Bennett from completing his address. The security team maintained control of the area after the suspect was removed. Local police confirmed the man was in custody for questioning on Saturday night.
