Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan landed in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, accompanied by three cabinet members. The delegation includes Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Bolea, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi, and Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu. Their immediate priority is resolving energy logistics before winter arrives.
Tofan plans to meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk. The Moldovan government stated the leaders will discuss bilateral relations, trade, and regional security. A central topic is Moldova’s path toward the European Union.
The visit follows Tofan’s earlier comments on October 12 regarding potential natural gas purchases from Ukraine. On October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to discuss shared energy challenges and winter preparations. The two nations seek to solidify these arrangements during the current meeting.
Tofan and Koretskyi will also attend the Kyiv International Economic Forum. The event focuses on investment opportunities and economic cooperation between the two states. No specific financial figures were released in the government statement.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu recently noted her country is prepared to accept new refugees from Ukraine. She cited the severe humanitarian situation as the driving factor. The current diplomatic push coincides with this readiness to support Ukraine’s population.
