Diltz to Build Laurel Canyon Set for $100M Fundraiser

Henry Diltz will transform Chaplin Studios in Hollywood into a temporary replica of his personal idea of heaven on December 12.

The Art of Elysium has named the veteran rock photographer the event's Heaven Visionary. This title comes with a specific task: curate a one-night-only art installation. The set will evoke the lush landscapes of Laurel Canyon and the energy of Woodstock, locations where Diltz captured many of his most famous images.

The installation serves as the centerpiece for the organization's annual gala. Diltz is well known for photographing major acts in the 1960s and 1970s. His portfolio includes album covers and portraits for America, The Doors, The Eagles, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, The Mamas & The Papas, The Monkees, and Neil Young. These images helped define the visual identity of a generation of rock music.

Jennifer Howell, founder and CEO of The Art of Elysium, selected Diltz for the role. In a statement, she noted that he has a remarkable gift for making people feel comfortable enough to reveal who they are. Howell said this spirit aligns with the nonprofit's goal of bringing artists and communities together. She described Chaplin Studios as a place where Diltz can share a rich legacy of imagination with the musicians who created iconic recordings.

A group of high-profile figures is co-chairing the evening. John Mayer, Alix Nichol, McG Nichol, Faryal Ganjehei, and Sima Morrison will lead the event planning and promotion. Rain Phoenix, the musician and sister of Joaquin and River Phoenix, will receive the Spirit of Elysium honor. The award recognizes her work supporting the communities served by the organization.

Elijah Wood and Chris Holmes will take over the DJ booth for the night. The event aims to raise funds for the nonprofit's programs. These programs support people dealing with illness, isolation, displacement, disability, emotional challenges, and major life transitions. The organization focuses on providing connection, belonging, dignity, participation, and expression to those individuals.

The gala marks the next major step in The Art of Elysium's calendar. Diltz will build the set specifically for this single evening. The installation will not be repeated, making the December 12 date the only time the public can see this specific vision of his personal paradise.
