Ayesha Curry will star in "Second Chance Holiday," a holiday romantic comedy that Roku announced Tuesday will begin streaming Nov. 5. The role marks her first lead in a feature film. Roku first confirmed Curry's involvement in July but held back the trailer and date until this week.
Roku's description of the plot follows a dating expert trying to break a run of holiday breakups who reconnects with her high school crush, played by Matthew Daddario, and begins to read her pattern of bad luck as a nudge back toward a first love. Daddario is the brother of actor Alexandra Daddario.
Curry is married to Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, a four-time NBA champion. The couple have been married 15 years and have four children. On Oct. 27, Stephen Curry posted about the trailer on X, calling his wife "My Leading Lady" and writing that he watches the work behind the scenes and now "the world gets to see you shine." He added that it is "just the beginning."
In a statement released in July, Ayesha Curry said she considered it an honor to work "alongside such a talented cast and crew" and spoke to the appeal of the genre. "There's something truly magical about holiday rom-coms," she said. "They invite you into these charming, cozy worlds where anything feels possible." She said she grew attached to her character, Chelsey, while playing her.
Screen work predates this lead. Her most recent appearance came in the animated film "GOAT," which her husband produced and appeared in. Her credits also include Disney's "Hannah Montana" and "Good Luck Charlie" and HBO's "Ballers."
Roku will carry the film as part of its holiday programming when it arrives Nov. 5.
