A Florida detention deputy has been arrested and terminated after investigators uncovered images of inmates and sensitive data on his work computer.
The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office identified the officer as Douglas Chirinos. His IT team flagged a potential security breach on October 23, noting he had installed programs on an agency machine against policy. During the subsequent review, detectives located screenshots from surveillance cameras showing partially nude female inmates. The files also included criminal case details Chirinos had no official reason to view.
Investigators stated that Chirinos bypassed security systems to enter the user accounts of other staff members. He had served with the department since 2025. On Monday, authorities booked him into the DeSoto County Jail. His charge is for offenses against users of computers and networks without authorization, a third-degree felony.
Sheriff James Potter addressed the findings during a Monday announcement. He described the discovery on a shared agency computer as extremely disturbing. Potter called the situation unacceptable and affirmed that Chirinos would face accountability for his actions.
Authorities have not yet released the number of affected inmates. They also have not determined the duration of the unauthorized access. Detectives are currently identifying victims to send notifications while the investigation into Chirinos's specific actions continues.
