Apple sold 23,000 iPhone Duo units on launch day, though the company had warned ahead of time that retail stock would be limited. The foldable went on sale Friday, October 23, at Apple Store locations worldwide. Queues formed overnight outside stores as shoppers waited to buy the device in person.
Apple published photos Friday morning showing launch activity from various cities. Store employees offered hands-on demonstrations of the device. Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, joined retail executive Vanessa Trigub at the Fifth Avenue store in New York. Apple CEO John Ternus appeared at the Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas, with retail chief Deirdre O'Brien. Ternus had toured Apple's Austin offices earlier in the week. The city is hosting the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix this weekend, and Apple is the exclusive F1 streamer in the US.
Apple had stated before the launch that inventory in its retail stores would be limited. Store employees told shoppers who could not buy a device to check the Apple Store app on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET for details on store stock. 9to5Mac asked readers who visited a store on launch morning whether they were able to get an iPhone Duo.
