Milwaukee fans now have a World Series trophy, a milestone the franchise had waited decades to reach. The Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-0 in Game 5 on Wednesday to win their first championship.
Jacob Misiorowski, a 24-year-old right-hander, started the game on regular rest. He pitched five and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. He left the game in the sixth inning due to a calf cramp, but the Brewers bullpen held the lead for the rest of the night.
His performance matched a rare standard in postseason history. Only Tom Glavine in 1995 had previously thrown at least five scoreless innings while allowing two or fewer hits in a potential World Series clincher.
Questions lingered after Game 4 about whether manager Pat Murphy should have used Misiorowski to close the bottom of the 12th inning. The decision proved sound because Milwaukee held a 3-0 series lead, keeping Misiorowski fresh for the decisive game.
Workload management was a key factor in the team's strategy this year. In 2025, Misiorowski threw 141 one-third innings across the minors and majors. This season, he finished with 193 two-thirds innings, a career high. The Brewers limited his outings late in the regular season to preserve his stamina for the playoffs.
His regular season statistics led the major leagues. Misiorowski posted a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts in 174 two-thirds innings. He also topped the league in WHIP and strikeout rate while posting the lowest hit rate. He improved his strikeout rate and cut his walk rate compared to his rookie year.
"It's awesome," Misiorowski said on the field after the final out. "It's awesome for this team, it's awesome for the city of Milwaukee. I just made it work. It didn't matter how we won tonight, just that we won."
Misiorowski is under team control through 2031. Manager Pat Murphy noted that the club lacks a roster of Hall of Famers but pointed to Misiorowski and Jackson Chourio as a strong foundation for the future.
