Sam Fender has capped the highest standing ticket price for his upcoming stadium tour at 98.85 pounds. The 32 year old artist made the adjustment after initial listings for his Proper Massive tour drew criticism from fans over high costs. Fender posted on Instagram to confirm that the front standing zones would be removed from the venue layout.
The controversy began earlier this week when Fender announced the tour dates. An Instagram user named Gavin Davis shared a screenshot of the Wembley standing ticket options. The listing showed a price difference of 31.90 pounds between the front standing section at 130.75 pounds and the standard standing section at 98.85 pounds. Seated tickets ranged from 64.75 pounds to 130.75 pounds. Fender replied to the post to say he was not happy with the figures. He stated that the prices had been inflated beyond his original intentions and that any cost increase should only reflect staging expenses rather than ticketing partner margins.
Fender specifically criticized the division of standing areas into front and back tiers. He described the practice as bollocks and confirmed it would not be used for this tour. He noted his confusion over how the system became a standard in live music. The high pricing extended beyond London. Ticket listings for other cities also showed standing prices above 100 pounds. The highest price in the UK lineup was 120.95 pounds in Edinburgh. Manchester top tickets were listed at 119.60 pounds, while Cardiff reached 119 pounds. Newcastle showed a top price of 112.90 pounds.
General ticket sales for the tour are scheduled to begin on Friday. A presale opens on Wednesday morning. The tour will take place across the summer of 2027. Fender will perform at major stadiums including St James’s Park in Newcastle, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Marley Park in Dublin, Murrayfield in Edinburgh, and the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
The artist joins other musicians who have publicly challenged live music costs. In August, Zara Larsson shared a TikTok video agreeing with fans that tickets for her Bangkok show were very expensive. She expressed a desire to be more involved in the pricing process. Larsson said many people wanted to attend her shows but were deterred by the financial barrier.
Fender also confirmed earlier this week that a fourth studio album is in the works. He has not yet revealed the title or cover art. The release follows his 2025 album People Watching, which won the Mercury prize. The singer has won five Brit awards during his career. Hits include Hypersonic Missiles and Seventeen Going Under.
Earlier this year, Fender collaborated with Olivia Dean on a duet version of the single Rein Me In. The track won the 2026 Brit award for song of the year. It spent 23 weeks at number one on the singles chart. This run makes it the longest running number one single in British history.
