OnePlus has begun pushing the stable build of Android 17 to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4, moving the release forward by one week from the original plan. This update marks the definitive end of OxygenOS, as these two devices become the first in the lineup to run exclusively on ColorOS.
The company originally scheduled the initial stable release for October 29. By launching the update on October 23, OnePlus compressed the wait time for early adopters in India. The software had been available in beta for several months, but the stable version is now open to all users on the specified hardware.
OxygenOS served as OnePlus’s global interface for years. It started as a light modification of stock Android before evolving into a derivative of Oppo’s ColorOS. When OnePlus reduced its global operational footprint, the company announced that OxygenOS would be phased out. Existing devices would eventually migrate to ColorOS, a transition that has now begun with the current flagship generation.
OnePlus framed the update around a theme of seamless integration. The company described ColorOS 17 as bringing "a new wave of smarter experiences, smoother interactions, and more ways to make your phone work around you." The brand’s marketing materials emphasize the concept of "Flow with AI, Flow Everywhere." The goal is to reduce friction between tasks and devices, allowing artificial intelligence to assist in turning concepts into completed work.
The first wave of the update is limited to the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4. Both devices are available in India, where the rollout is currently active. Other models, including previous generation flagships and various Nord series phones, are confirmed for future updates but are not part of this initial push.
The next scheduled update is set for October 30. This second wave will include the OnePlus 13. While OnePlus has not provided specific dates for other regions, the company indicated that the software is expected to reach additional markets in the coming days. The timing follows a period of logistical changes for the brand, including reports that the OnePlus 15 sold out in the United States after the company scaled back its global presence.
The move to ColorOS also coincides with recent hardware announcements. OnePlus recently unveiled the OnePlus 16, which features a 9,000 mAh battery. As the brand continues to consolidate its software under the Oppo umbrella, the shift to ColorOS represents a structural change in how OnePlus manages its operating system updates for the global market.
