Google Health version 5.11 reduces missed workout logs by more than half. The update, rolling out this week, doubles the accuracy of automatic activity tracking. It also introduces new tools for monitoring blood pressure and insulin resistance.
The system now recognizes 100 distinct activity types. This is a tenfold increase from the previous limit of 10. The new categories include strength training, swimming, racket sports, and team sports. The feature is live on the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4, and 5. The Fitbit Edge will receive the update on October 27.
Google states that the detection uses contextual reasoning. It analyzes user routines, historical data, and manual edits to improve precision. Workouts are logged automatically if they meet a 15 minute minimum duration and show a sustained elevated heart rate. A summary appears in the app within 30 minutes. The system learns from user confirmations or edits to refine future predictions.
Premium subscribers with a Fitbit Air or Fitbit Edge can access two new Health Guardian features. Blood pressure trend reports are due in early November. Users must have worn a Fitbit Air for at least five consecutive days in October to see these trends. Insulin resistance trends track monthly shifts in metabolic health. This feature requires seven or more days and nights of wear during the month.
The app also updates glucose tracking. The label 'Blood glucose' has changed to 'Glucose' with new charts. Users can set custom time in range goals for connected continuous glucose monitors. In the US, Lingo by Abbott now connects directly to the app. Glucose readings appear within 30 minutes. Premium members can ask the Google Health Coach questions about their trends.
Sleep tracking has also changed. The system now uses step data to better identify short awakenings, such as trips to the bathroom. Users can delete naps that do not match their day directly from the nap card. The update is available on iOS and is currently rolling out to Android devices.
