Hamburg prosecutors detained an 18-year-old on Thursday after an FBI tip tied him to the death of a 14-year-old girl from Indiana. The suspect is held as an indirect perpetrator in a murder and grievous bodily harm case.
Prosecutors say he belonged to an online group called Nefarious Maniac Kult, also known as NMK, which operates inside a global network called COM. Between September and October, when he was 17, he used Discord to exert influence over the girl, whom prosecutors described as psychologically fragile.
He allegedly told her to cut herself and write NMK on a wall in her own blood, then sent him video recordings of the acts. A few days later she hanged herself in her bedroom. Prosecutors say he also asked for a video of her death, hoping it would raise his standing in the group or earn him entry.
FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy J. O'Malley said his office worked with the Fort Wayne Police Department to give German police the information that advanced the arrest. The Fort Wayne Police Department said its Homicide Unit identified a suspect who contributed to the juvenile's death. "Anyone who targets or exploits a child should understand this: There is no safe haven from justice," O'Malley said. "It doesn't matter where you live or where you try to hide."
The case sits inside a pattern the FBI has been tracking. Director Kash Patel said nihilistic violent extremism cases rose 300% from September 2024 to September 2025, with many linked to a group called 764. The FBI says 764 has no single ideology, but its members push self-harm and violence and ask victims to record those acts on video.
Hamburg prosecutors brought the detention a day after the arrest, following the FBI tip. The suspect was 17 during the period covered by the allegations.
