Cadillac Escalade IQ Tops 4,000 Pounds in Battery Heavy Design
The full-size electric SUV carries a 200 kWh battery pack and claims 460 miles of range, adding a third to the weight of its gas predecessor.

Cadillac confirmed the electric Escalade IQ achieves a 460 mile range on the EPA test cycle. The vehicle lacks a formal EPA range rating because its weight places it in the Class 3 truck category. However, the manufacturer states the car can travel 740 kilometers on a single charge.
The vehicle carries a lithium-ion battery pack exceeding 200 kWh. During a week-long review, the car arrived with an indicated range of 440 miles. Cadillac’s press car handlers requested at least 125 miles of range remain at the end of the period. The high initial charge made recharging unlikely during the test drive.
The Escalade IQ shares its battery and core components with other full-size General Motors electric vehicles. These include the Chevrolet Silverado EV, the GMC Sierra EV, and the Hummer EV models. Cadillac designed the SUV to show that replacing a V8 engine with dual electric motors does not reduce the brand's capabilities. The company plans to offer a mix of electric and combustion engines through 2030.
The curb weight of the electric Escalade reaches 9,046 pounds, or 4,103 kilograms. This figure is one-third higher than the last gas-powered model tested. The weight requires the vehicle to use flat side mirrors to meet regulatory standards. Despite the mass, the SUV includes multiple airbags, which are not strictly required for vehicles in this weight class.
The vehicle is large enough to dominate a standard parking space while remaining small enough to fit within typical garage dimensions. The heavy build reflects the capacity of the battery system needed to support the long distance range.
